This richly coloured, stunningly bold reverse glass painting is a recent example of an enduringly popular art form in Rajasthan. Familiar subjects include portraits of the ruling classes, as here, as well as mythological figures, participants in the Hindu epics, icons and ornamental themes from nature. The vibrant patterning of garments and drapery and areas of block colour recall other Indian pictorial traditions such as miniature painting.
